Scientists say they’ve just discovered a new species of whale quartz

The first hints of a new species came from Japan in 1940s, when whalers reported catching an unknown beaked whale. Then, in 2004, a dead whale washed up on an Alaskan shore that looked vaguely familiar. The next hint came in 2013, when Japanese scientists used modern DNA analysis to test old samples and found evidence that indeed this mysterious mammal may be new to us. Then, finally, in 2014, another washed up dead on a shore in Alaska.

Researchers Have Confirmed the World's Deepest Sinkhole mic

...the sinkhole — also called a blue hole for its deep blue color compared to the shallow waters around it — is 426 feet wide and drops roughly 987 feet below sea level. It beat the previous record-holder, Dean's Blue Hole, by over 300 feet of depth. Sometimes called the "eye" of the South China Sea, the hole has been officially named the Sansha Yongle Blue Hole by the Sansha city government.

Robotic Onesie Assists Babies at Risk for Cerebral Palsy spectrum.ieee.org v

...a team of biomedical engineers and physical therapists have developed a motorized device to help infants at risk for cerebral palsy develop motor and cognitive skills. After a promising pilot study, the group began a larger trial of 56 infants this year. They use a robot equipped with power steering, a sophisticated machine-learning algorithm, and an endearing little cap studded with dozens of electrodes that track brain activity.

For the first time, researchers see structure that allows brain cells to communicate medicalxpress v

...beyond [a] basic outline, the details of how this crucial aspect of brain function occurs have remained elusive. Now, new research by scientists at the University of Maryland School of Medicine medschool.umaryland.edu (UM SOM) has for the first time elucidated details about the architecture of this process. The paper was published today in the journal Nature.

Transgender identity 'should not be classified as a mental disorder' medicalnewstoday

With ICD-11 - the updated diagnostic manual for the WHO - due to come into play in May 2018, Prof. Reed and colleagues decided to embark on the first ever field trial to assess the feasibility of reclassifying transgender identity.

The reality is that all of us suffer from mental 'disorders'. When we fell (Gen 3), it wasn't just the physical aspects of creation that were "subjected to futility" (Rom 8:20), but even our thoughts and minds and thoughts were corrupted (known as the noetic effect of sin). The believer, the new creature he/she is, must themselves be renewed in mind according to the image of Christ (Romans 12:2, Col 3:10, etc), a process that will happen with the help of the Holy Spirit until we die - that's how corrupted we are. One of the long-term damages done by the 'science' of psychology has been an attempt to excuse/justify away sin as merely mental disorders, often trying to find an external cause to our internal struggle. This report attempts just that by showing that those in this lifestyle AREN'T disorded on the BASIS of them not finding a consistant "thing" in their upbringings (ex: they weren't all beaten by their parents or had other horrific sin dones against them). Therefore, the report implies, it's simply "who they are". Whether they take this one off their list or not, it doesn't affect the underlying issue - we are all born enemies of God, corrupted from birth (Psalm 51:5). Our corruption and rebellion comes out many different ways, and reveal that "who we are" is so wicked that we dare to tell our Creator, God, how we will be and live and look like and act. This report is interesting, but merely moves things one step further away from understanding how God sees us in our rebellious state (Rom 3:10, Eph 2:3, etc) and a step closer towards helping people feel comfortable in their rebellion.

ALL ARE WELCOME, EXCEPT JESUS wnd

I recently passed an Episcopal church displaying one of those trendy banners proclaiming, “All are welcome.” This particular sign was adorned with rainbow colors and an emphatic subheading: “No Exceptions!” Really?

It's an interesting article. The author is from an Episcopalian church, herself, which is liberal in many other areas even without the homosexuality issue...read cautiously.

Airbus Partners With Anti-Drone Company To ‘Defend’ Airports And Prisons techweekeurope.co.uk

Dedrone’s anti-drone software and hardware is called DroneTracker dedrone, and the company says it is already in service in sports stadiums like New York’s Citi Field. DroneTracker uses visual and acoustic sensors, combined with frequency scanners, to detect drones and alert authorities. Now, with Airbus jamming technology, Dedrone can automatically engage ‘defense mechanisms’ and detect low-flying drones from up to six miles away.
