North Korea

Is Kim Jong-un seeking a deal with Donald Trump? Senior North Korean officials prepare to travel to US for talks scmp

Analysts also say they are highly doubtful that Pyongyang, which has insisted on being recognised as a nuclear state, would be willing to moderate its position on its weapons programme. But if the talks do take place, they could offer a glimmer of hope for an already hostile relationship that has only deteriorated as the Kim government works aggressively to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of reaching the continental US.

U.S. rushes to add laser-armed drones to missile defense network reviewjournal

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency mda.mil says it has conducted tests of a “directed-energy airborne laser” fired from a military drone. The weapon, which would be carried by remote-control aircraft loitering high over suspected enemy ballistic missile launch sites, would add an early interception ability to the current system, which relies on “metal-to-metal” missile interceptors guided by an elaborate system of radar and satellites.

Society

Yale group to demand sanctions against frats for not allowing women and ‘non-binaries’ thecollegefix

Engender, a group created “to advocate for a more inclusive social environment on campus,” had worked out an arrangement last month with the frat Sigma Phi Epsilon to allow non-males to rush. However, SigEp refused membership to them — all women — citing “national regulations.”

The robot that takes your job should pay taxes, says Bill Gates qz

In a recent interview with Quartz, Gates said that a robot tax could finance jobs taking care of elderly people or working with kids in schools, for which needs are unmet and to which humans are particularly well suited. He argues that governments must oversee such programs rather than relying on businesses, in order to redirect the jobs to help people with lower incomes. The idea is not totally theoretical: EU lawmakers considered a proposal to tax robot owners to pay for training for workers who lose their jobs, though on Feb. 16 the legislators ultimately rejected it.

The Post-Human World theatlantic w!

With famine, plague, and war in their twilight—at least, for now—mankind will turn its focus to achieving immortality and permanent happiness, according to Yuval Harari’s new book Homo Deus. In other words, to turning ourselves into gods.

This is an interview without true substance or basis in reality (I can say that because it stands directly at odds in many points with what God has told us about who we are in His word), but it's an interesting look into those with this type of worldview.

Organized by Sejong Cyber University ac.kr and Korea’s International Interpretation Translation Association, the battle will pit a professional translator from Ewha Womans University against three AI-powered machine translators -- Google Translate, Naver’s Papago and Systran’s machine translation solution.

Vandals target historic Jewish cemetery in University City [MO] fox2now v

Police would not say if they considered the vandalism at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery chesedshelemeth.org to be a hate crime or not. It is believed there was some organization behind the crime, meaning this was not the act of one individual. Police said they're reviewing security camera footage from the area. More than 100 headstones were damaged.

Thousands chant ‘Allahu Akbar’ for Farrakhan in Detroit theamericanmirror v

“I want to disabuse you of that [belief that Jews were chosen by God]. I’m going to tell you about your future. You that think you have power to frighten and dominate the peoples of the world. I’m here to announce the end of your time,” Farrakhan said, slamming his hand on the podium.

...I am here to announce today the end of his world and the beginning of a brand new reality that all human beings will enjoy peace, freedom justice and equality under the rule of Allah.

This 3D-Printer Uses Holograms for Super-Fast Printing archdaily v

The printer works by projecting a 3D light field into a dish of the light sensitive monomer “goo.” The plastic quickly hardens, allowing it to be extracted using a screen. The whole process takes just 5 seconds, compared to the several minutes than would be required by an ordinary 3D printer.
